We operate in multiple cities, and for a number of years, have (mostly successfully) targeted each city with its own landing page. But lately Im seeing these pages drop in rankings,

If I ignored SEO tactics, and designed the site based on what I think would be most useful/helpful to people viewing the website, I would not have any location landing pages. I would have one strong page (eg, probably the home page), that says "and we operate in the following locations..." and then list them off.

The thing is, I dont really think these location specific landing pages have ever offered any real value to someone searching, other than just making it clear that we operate in their area (which doesn't need a landing page to make that clear).

They're basically variations of each other, key word adjusted for the location - done for the purpose of ranking locally. I mean, that sounds like spam.

But all the research says that I need landing pages for each location.

      My question:

What would happen if I built one new page, and listed all the locations clearly on that page, and then 301 redirect the existing location landing pages to the new, single page.

Would I fall of the cliff?

@miriamellis my other concern with the way we're currently doing things, is that it's hard to amass reviews when we have multiple GMB listings.

Because our business is centrally organised, there is no real benefit to anyone reading a location specific review.

We're not like a pizza shop, where there's a myriad of factors specific to the location that could effect someones experience (eg, hard to get to, poor parking, oven burns the pizza, rude staff etc).

In our case, clients are basically dealing with the main location, but the equipment is dispatched locally.

@miriamellis For context, we do equipment rentals.

Pre-Covid, 90% of the time, we would either personally deliver, or ship the products to clients, but, they did have a option to collect from the location.

Post-Covid, with the exception of our main location, we now ship out or deliver 100%.

@blitzna101 Important question you are asking here. May I ask, do you have physical locations in each of the cities for which you've built a landing page and are you directly serving customers (face to face/socially distanced) or is your business model virtual, with no physical locations and no in-person customer service?

Need help in diagnosing what I may be doing wrong

seo expert seo ranking seo tactics

I have a site that has been having problems ranking. Initially, spam rate was at 18%. I have since changed the URL and forwarded to the original so now the spam rate is under 5%. Phone calls started picking back up very slowly but then by August 2024 things came to a screeching halt. Phone has been dead and very little business has been written. I did notice on the robots.txt file it had this: User-agent: *
              Disallow: /
              User-agent: Googlebot
              Disallow:
              User-agent: bingbot
              Disallow: /no-bing-crawl/
Disallow: wp-admin and now I have since changed it to this:
              User-agent: *
              Disallow: /wp-admin/
Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php Sitemap: https://urlishere.com/sitemap_index.xml My question is what else do I need to do to get this site to start ranking again? We are blogging once a month, writing press releases once a month, updating the social media a few times a week. I feel like maybe there is something on the backend that needs to be done to get this site back to ranking. I am using SEO by Yoast and I have filled in the title and meta description fields for all pages. There is a spot in Yoast where I can validate the site with Google, Bing, etc. I'm trying to figure out how to do that. I do see in the site's Google Webmaster Tools there are several pages not indexing. Any ideas on what else I can do to get this site to start ranking again? Thank you.

              Google not listing website correctly

              google listing seo website submission

have a domain that was unused for a while and displayed the "parked by Gandi" domain message. Recently, I decided to set up a fully working website on that domain, but I'm struggling to get it to rank correctly on Google. Google isn't updating the http://domain.com to the correct https://www.domain.com, and I have tried everything. The http://domain.com redirects to https://www.domain.com if you click on it. I managed to get the correct version, https://www.domain.com, to show up, but after a couple of days, it reverted to the old version and has stayed that way. This has been going on for a few weeks now. Additionally, I had an old version of the site using .com, and I forwarded that to the .co.uk, but the old .com will not be removed from Google. it was just one page without much content. At the moment, Google's search results look very messy and out of date. I have submitted the URL in the Google Search Console using the URL inspection tool and requested indexing and reindexing. I have also submitted sitemaps, but nothing is really working. Any ideas?

Unsolved Keyword Volume Filtered By City Location?

              keyword explorer keywords local

Let's say I look up the keyword "plumber" in the Keyword Research tool. I get a monthly volume of 70.8k-118k. Now, I want to know how much of that volume comes from a specific city in the United States, like Kalamazoo, Michigan. Is there a way to identify this? My alternative is to look up the keyword "Kalamazoo plumber". This has two problems: People who search for local services will frequently leave off the location, with the expectation that the search engine will provide localized organic results. So, the search volume isn't very precise. That keyword has N/A volume, so the information doesn't help me anyway. Any alternative way to get at this data? Thanks!

Clever Way To Increase Organic Search Traffic To News/Magazine Websites

newsseo magazine link building seo tactics

Hi fellow Mozzers... I've been asked to increase organic search (SEO) traffic to a news/magazine style website. All the website consists of is regular news articles within a specific niche. It is also already listed on Google News. I know we can improve any on-page tactics, such as optimising the article webpages, internal linking, improving the navigation and adding breadcrumbs etc. But what about off-page? They want us to work on backlinks to the site, which we can do for the homepage to improve the domain authority. But there's no point on increasing backlinks to the individual news articles, as they have a very short life span, and are not evergreen. Perhaps it's a good idea to increase backlinks to the category pages? But there are no real keyword opportunites on these pages. Can anyone recommend a clever SEO strategy to increase SEO traffic to a news style website? The site can be found at https://tinyurl.com/2p9arrwz Best wishes. Many thanks for any replies in advance 🙂 Lee.

Will amp be effective in 2022?

              seo tactics algorithm update

Will AMP be effective in 2022? I am thinking of using AMP on my website since Core Web Vitals has become a ranking factor. For mobile devices, I guess AMP would be a good option to align with the Core Web Vital update.
